So, you went to court and were told to get a DWI assessment, and now you don’t know what to do next? You’ve come to the right place! If you’ve been convicted of a DWI(Driving While Impaired), you have to get a substance abuse assessment. This assessment will determine what level of care you need. Wondering what else you need to know? Here's a list of 5 important things you need to know.
  1. To get your driver’s license reinstated, you must complete a Substance Use Assessment.
  2. The assessment must be conducted by a certified or licensed substance abuse professional.
  3. You are required to bring your ticket and breathalyzer to the assessment.
  4. The assessor must obtain a copy of your “Complete Driving History” from the DMV.
  5. Assessments must follow American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria to decide your needs. If you don’t have a diagnosis, you will be referred to ADETS(Alcohol and Drug Traffic School).

I appreciate that this post mentioned that one of the benefits of a DUI assessment is that it helps determine the extent of our DUI. The other day my wife mentioned her brother was arrested on a DUI charge. I will look into hiring a professional for an assessment.

I appreciate your clarifying that a substance use assessment must be completed in order for your driver's license to be reinstated. My friend claimed that her driving privileges were revoked as a result of her negligent use of alcohol while driving. I'll advise her to attend the DUI evaluation for counseling and assessment.
